Big Week 10, 11, 12 and Winter Break Update - Part 2

This is part 2 of the update, so if you havent read part 1, go and read it now for more work progress.

Right, the low poly model is not finished yet, so that is now behind schedule so that will be dicussed at the end. What I have currently are screenshots and renders of a model that is 692 polygons so is well within the limits that I had set of 2500 for the low poly model. Below can be seen the renders of the model as well as screenshots that show off the wireframe of the model.

Right. That covers the work from the past weeks. There are not many changes to the dissertation proposal, but these will now be listed below:

  • In addition to the models, if there is time I will be attempting to animate the snake.
  • Failing that, I will put the finished models into different positions to make them look more realistic.
Those are the two changes to the dissertation, but the first is purely on the factor of time.

This concludes the update, and these are the tasks to carry over to the next week:

  • Low Poly Model - New Deadline: 4th February
  • Start High Poly Model - Start 4th February
  • Start High Poly Texture Start 31st January
There will now be weekly updates every friday, and I know I have made that promise before, but with more work coming, I will need somewhere to post it.

Big Week 10, 11, 12 and Winter Break Update - Part 1

Right. Lets get down to business, to defeat the hun-- No wait, sorry, tried to sedgway into a disney musical there..

This update will cover the missing weeks on the blog, as well as the winter update and will come in three parts to stagger the work somewhat. This is what was meant to have been done in the missing weeks:

  • Finish Box Model
  • Start Concepting High Poly Textures
  • Finish Low Poly Model without Textures
  • Start High Poly Texture
  • Start High Poly Model
Other tasks to be carried over from the previous weeks were:
  • Scan templates
  • Complete Box model
  • More concept art
Lets deal with the carried over tasks first. Below can be seen the concept art that I have done for this model. There are only two pieces of art, but this shows some of the detail I will have to put on the neck with the slanted neck scales.

Also, bonus Moodboard! Just to show the pattern on the back of the snake that I will have to put onto the texturing.

That takes care of two of the three tasks that were carried over from the previous weeks, no more work will be done on the concept art, this is a low priority task.

The Box model is also complete, which screenshots and renders can be seen below. This takes care of all of the carried over tasks as well as completing one of the tasks to be done over the missing weeks.

I have also started to concept different colours for snakeskin that are in the spectrum of Indian Cobra colours, and these can be seen below. These are all modifed textures from Adobe Illustrator, but I believe this will work for my model if I modify them enough to make them look different. As they are at the minute as I said, these are just colour swaps.

This ends part one, with part two coming later today with work on the low poly model and any changes that I have chosen to make to the project will be gone into in detail.
